LATVIA BIRDS FUND

Latvia Birds Fund was founded in the summer of 2010 with the aim to promote education of the Latvian society regarding the issues of environmental protection with an emphasis on recognition and protection of birds.

Latvia Birds Fund aims to promote these activities, to protect biodiversity including species of birds, mammals, fish, amphibians, reptiles, invertebrate’s ferns, mushrooms, moss, algae and fungus. It also hopes to preserve the natural habitat and ecosystems for present and future generations as well as reducing the negative impact of human intervention due to farming, recreation or industrial activities.

Latvia Birds Fund places a special emphasis on education for schoolchildren and young people in relation to protecting birds and their habitats. With the assistance of experienced Latvia Birds Fund expert guides more than 5300 schoolchildren and teachers from many Latvia counties have obtained skills in bird-watching and insight in environmental protection.

Bird demonstrations and educational events are aimed not only for school children, but also for pre-school ages and also for teachers from all over Latvia. Enterprises and Companies receive consultations and advice on minimizing environmental damage and helping to be more nature friendly.

In order to promote the education of general society, Latvia Birds Fund in cooperation with its partners has prepared various bird related educational publications, on such topics as bird watching, how to feed birds in winter, how to prepare, install and maintain artificial nests. The information has been prepared and published on the web to raise interest and engage schoolchildren as well as other members of the society with the protection of the environment.
